Ingredients

  • 2 cups black beans (Kashmiri Vaari Muth)
  • 2 tsp Fennel powder
  • 1 tbs. Oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Ginger powder
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder or as per taste
  • Pinch of Asafetida, Heeng
  • 1 tsp. of Vaer or masala (optional) Kashmiri
  • 3-4 dried whole Red Chili peppers
  • 2 green Chili peppers
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 Cups of water

METHOD

Method:

  • Take pressure cooker & add black beans to it.
  • Add 6 cups of water in it.
  • Pressure cook until 4-5 whistles.
  • Turn off stove & Let it stand on stove for 10-15 minutes
  • Open the cooker only after pressure has dropped.
  • Take half of beans & put in a mixer and give a one mix
  • Add this half-mixed beans back to cooker and mix it well with other half beans.
  • Add all the above masala ingredients (except Vaer Masala) salt & oil into it. Mix well
  • Turn on heat and cook for about 20 minutes on medium to low heat.
  • Mix vaer masala to black bean dal at the end.
  • Vaari muth dal is ready to serve with rice.

Note:

  1. You can also make an onion Tadka and mix it with Dal (if you want)
  2. You can soak dried black beans (Vaari Muth) one night before or few hrs. before cooking.
  3. For caned black beans you do not need to soak.
