Ingredients

  • 3 lb. Medium-sized blushing turnips
  • 3 hot green chilies
  • 3 whole dried red chilies
  • 2 tbs. mustard oil or any oil
  • ½ tsp. Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp. Vear Masala
  • A pinch of heeng
  • Salt to taste




METHOD

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker or a heavy bottomed pan.  When the oil starts to smoke, add heeng.  
  • Add the Gogji or turnips and sauté, stir frequently till the turnips just begin to light brown at the edges.  
  • Add a cup of water.  Break chilies into half and add to the pot. Add Chili powder & Season with salt.  Close the lid and pressure cook for 8-10 minutes, or simmer covered in the pan till the vegetables are done.  
  • The turnips will disintegrate a bit but that is how it should be.  
  • Add Vear Masala
  • Serve hot over steamed rice and fresh yogurt.
